Review of Jacob Heilbrunn's "They Knew They Were Right - The Rise of the Neocons"

By now the history of the neoconservative movement is a bit of a twice-told tale. There have been book-length academic treatments and substantial coverage in the media, especially as the influence of the neocons in the George W. Bush Administration and in promoting the war in Iraq came to be public knowledge. Those with some familiarity with this history will find that Heilbrunn’s treatment adds little to available accounts. But what it does better than other mainstream media accounts is to really get at the Jewish nexus of the movement.

I have been following the "alternative media" for a few years now. I noticed during the illegal Israeli attack on Lebanon that many talk show hosts and other notable personalities in the "alternative media" failed to seize on the opportunity to crush Zionism that the Jewish war against their Arab neighbors provided. Instead of covering this war as it should have been covered, they staged soap opera infighting, promoted hoax stories about the Pentagon on 9/11, and generally spewed out defeatist and sophistical crap ad nauseam. Callers to these shows noticed the same effect I was noticing and pleaded with the hosts to stop doing what they were doing and address the war.

The Fates of Americans and Palestinians are Deeply Intertwined

Even before the voting began, Israeli politicians and pundits were asking: Will an Obama Administration be good for Israel? “Be good for Israel” is our code for “Will the US allow us to keep our settlements and continue to support our efforts to prevent negotiations with the Palestinians from ever bearing fruit?” For Americans the question should be: Will the Obama Administration understand that without addressing Palestinian needs it will not be able to disentangle itself from its broader Middle Eastern imbroglios, rejoin the community of nations and rescue its economy?

Two of the plaintiffs in court cases against Sen. Barack Obama, the president-elect, are working to move their cases forward before his presidential inauguration.

Philip J. Berg, the attorney who filed suit against Mr. Obama challenging him to produce his original birth certificate to prove he meets the constitutional requirements to serve as U.S. president. Mr. Berg filed a Writ of Certiorari in the U.S. Supreme Court late in October, in an effort to force Mr. Obama to produce the document.

The Finance Ministry may have ordered the destruction of ownership documents of land in British-mandate Palestine that was purchased by European Jews who died in the Holocaust, according to a recent report. The land was then sold to third parties who were unaware of the true owners' identity.

The case of Barack Obama and Martin Luther King form interesting comparisons. The media covered up King’s connections during his lifetime, just as they cover up Barack Obama’s now. King’s communist connections were legion. His chief advisor and fundraiser was Stanley Levison, a communist and World Jewish Congress official. Numerous of King’s closest friends and associates were also communists. Bayard Rustin and Aubrey Williams were two good examples. King attended the Folk Highlander communist training school in Tennessee. Supposedly he did not know what it really was. King plagiarized his doctoral thesis in theology at seminary school the same way Barack Obama forged his “American” birth certificate. Obama had a very close childhood friend, Frank Marshall Davis. Davis was a lifelong communist. Naturally, Obama did not know that “Frank” was a communist, anymore than Saint Martin knew that the Folk Highlander Training School was communist. (Men of politics are so naïve.) Barack Obama has many other interesting connections. He has been a long time associate of the communist Bill Ayers and the Chicago Jewish Marxist labor agitator, Saul Alinsky. No one should be naïve enough to suppose that Barack Obama actually shares the beliefs of those he associates with. That would be “guilt by association”, the same horrid principle by which right wing Congressional investigators slandered Robert J. Oppenheimer as a communist, just because his brother and all his closest friends were Communist Party members. Barack Obama is a misunderstood man of “progressive” political leanings, just like Lauchlin Currie, Owen Lattimore, Harry Dexter White, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, Alger Hiss and all the other poor, misunderstood men and women who somehow managed to follow the Party line while exercising their “independence” of thought.

Germany's biggest tabloid, BILD, famous for its daily breast baring playmates on page 3, finally fulfilled a demand that landed countless revisionist historians such as Ernst Zuendel, Germar Rudolf and Fredrick Toeben in prison: Provide "proof" that the Nazi concentration camp in Auschwitz was in fact an extermination camp. [1] Not surprisingly, the Jerusalem Post frohlocks, "The evidence provided by BILD rebuts the last of those who would deny the Holocaust." [2]

The vast majority of Israeli citizens oppose the settler movement. Despite this, the colonialists recently launched a campaign to lure Israelis to visit the West Bank, the Jewish Forward newspaper reported. "Some 1,000 billboards have gone up across the country, showing photographs of cherubic settler children dressed in biblical costumes and carrying the slogan 'Judea and Samaria - the story of every Jew'."
